Is Your Pet's Profile Hurting or Helping? Why Keeping Info Pupdated Matters More Than You Think

At Fairy Dogmothers, we get it — life is busy. Between work, errands, social plans (or let’s be honest, just trying to get enough sleep), logging into your pet’s profile probably isn’t at the forefront of your mind.
But here’s the truth: a few forgotten clicks or outdated notes can significantly impact & have real consequences when it comes to your pet’s care.
We don’t say that to guilt or scare you — we say it because we care. And because the information you provide in your Time to Pet profile isn’t just for rufference — it’s the foundation of the care we provide. It’s our daily roadmap, our safety checklist, our behavior decoder ring, & our connection to you, even when you're not home. Without it, we are not able to provide the highest level & quality care we pride ourselves in.
Let’s walk through why this matters, what can go wrong, & how a five-minute review can make all the difference for your fur babies.
We Know You’re Busy. But So Are We — With Your Pet.
You’ve trusted us with your pets and your home — a responsibility we don’t take lightly. Every member of our team is trained to treat each visit with the same care & attention you would give. But we’re only human, & we rely on your instructions to ensure things go smoothly.
Your pet’s profile is how we know where the leash is, which door is tricky to lock, what “medicine treat” means, & when your anxious pup needs a calming walk instead of a play session. It’s how we keep pets safe, stick to your routines, & avoid guesswork.
When that info is missing or outdated, things get harder — & sometimes riskier — than they need to be.
"Why can't I simply leave a note on the counter?" - we hear this question frequently. In a team-based small business, this approach is neither practical nor feasible. Our clients select us due to our team-focused strategy. Even if one team member faces an emergency, your pets & home will receive uninterrupted care. A note left for Cheyenne weeks ago won't equip Kristin with the latest information needed to ensure the best care for your pets.
"I brought up this small detail during our meet & greet months ago" is another common comment we hear. However, briefly mentioning something that occurred a while back isn't useful when we're caring for your pets. With hundreds of clients & more joining, & numerous meet & greets happening each month, it's unrealistic for us to recall every minor detail, despite our best intentions.
Why It Matters (Even If You Think “Nothing’s Changed”)
Here’s the thing:
✔️ Pets age faster than we think
✔️ Our schedules are consistently changing
✔️ Habits can evolve fast & it might have been a while since we’ve taken care of your pet
Maybe your dog no longer needs a lunchtime potty break, or maybe they actually do — but you haven’t added it because you’re so used to just being home. Maybe your cats on a new medication, or you got a new alarm system that has a different alarm code. Even the tiniest pupdate (like where you moved the poop bags) can make or break the visit experience for both your sitter & your pet.
We rufference your Time to Pet profile in real-time — every single visit. From double-checking feeding instructions to confirming which door to use, that profile isn’t just a formality. It’s our safety net & our instruction manual.
And when it’s incomplete? Things can fall through the cracks.
Real-Life Examples (That Could Happen to Anyone)
We’ve seen it all — and most of the time, it’s not malicious or neglectful. It’s just... life. But the results can still be stressful (or even dangerous) for your pet. Here are a few scenarios we’ve experienced:
Missed Medication Alert: A senior pup’s meds were upped two weeks prior, but the profile wasn’t pupdated. The client meant to text us, but forgot in the shuffle of packing for a trip. We followed the profile. The dosage was wrong — thankfully not dangerously so, but it caused unnecessary stress for all involved & a vet follow-up just to be safe.
Changed Locks, No Warning: A pet pawrent installed a smart lock & forgot to give us the new code. The team member arrived for an overnight visit… & couldn’t get in. Emergency calls were made, & we found a solution — but it could’ve easily gone much worse.
Diet Mix-Up = Messy Outcome: A cat had switched to a sensitive stomach food. The old food instructions were still in the portal along with their old food in the exact same spot. Result: vomiting, litter box issues, & a very uncomfortable kitty. All avoidable with one quick profile edit.
These aren’t rare — they happen more often than you think. And each time, we learn, adapt, & try our best. But it’s always easier when we’re working with current, complete information.
Easy Wins: What You Can Do in 5–10 Minutes
Pupdating your profile doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We recommend doing a refresh every few months (if you’re a consistent client), before any travel plans, & without a doubt whenever something listed below has changed. Here’s a checklist to make it simple:
✅ Medication Instructions: Medication name, dosage, frequency with times included, methods that typically work if your pet likes to take it a particular way, & when we should contact you about missed pills or symptoms.
✅ Feeding Details: Exact brands, specific portion sizes, feeding times, special food preparation instructions, where they eat, & any “tricks” you use.
✅ Habits & Tendencies Notes: Do they bolt out the door if it’s cracked? Hate the rain? Need stairs assistance?
✅ Emergency Contacts: Are your backup humans reachable, local, & is your pet familiar with them?
✅ Vet Info & Preferences: Pup-to-date vet info, preferred animal ER, & any standing medical concerns.
✅ Behavioral Changes: Have they become more anxious? Started guarding food? Reacting to dogs on walks?
✅ New Systems (Locks, Alarms, Cameras): If you’ve added or changed anything in your home, let us know — we’re not psychic, promise 😉
